Doodle 43 - The Letter X

While looking through some lettering examples, I came across several that had the line going from right to left designed with kind of a "bypass" (second from the right in the lower right hand corner). It was kinda tricky to allow myself to do it that way and make it look okay - in fact, it bugged the crap out of me to set it up this way. I still think it looks like a wonky "K", but it works :)

Doodle 42 - The Letter W

I had just finished looking through my Tim Burton Book when I started working on the Ws. His influence is evident in one of them - which one do you think it is?

Doodle 41 - The Letter V

The letter V. Enjoyed playing with the joint of the two lines that connect. The one in the lower left feels kinda Dr. Seuss-ish :)

Doodle 40 - The Letter U

The letter U is an unusual letter, but I had fun with it anyway. I was playing with varied line weights in the lower right hand corner exploration - I think it turned out kinda cool!

Doodle 39 - The Letter T

T was a good letter to work with. There were a couple of these I was really pleased with. One in particular, the one shown in the lower right hand corner of the second photo, made me smile. I love curlie-cues in unexpected places!

Doodle 38 - The Letter S

I love the letter S. So many ways to accentuate the curves!

Doodle 37 - The Letter R

I like the letter R. I was thinking about doing another sheet of them because the one in the lower right hand corner got a little bigger than I anticipated. Oh well... maybe the next time around :)

Doodle 36

Again another absence. When I last posted, I'd been working on this piece. Here's the finished product:
I created this for a colleague of mine who left the company. He was always talking about Tony Hsieh and his book, Delivering Happiness (the Zappos Story). I found it only appropriate to use one of Tony's quotes for his going away gift. This was the first quote I've done in awhile - it was fun to get back into the swing of things and depart from the work I've been doing in the office lately.

Doodle 35

It's been awhile since I've posted. My life's become a bit more hectic than normal lately. In addition to helping my daughter sell Girl Scout cookies, I'm happy to announce that I recently received a promotion at work! That's been taking up quite a bit of my after-work hours, leaving my doodles to be pushed to the wayside. The weekends have lent themselves to a little more creative relief though - just take a look:

Doodle 34 - The Letter Q

I've always loved the letter Q. See for yourself:

Doodle 33 - The Letter P

Much like the letter K, I've written this letter thousands of times (thanks to my maiden name). I made a couple of bolder moves with some of these, but I like them.

Doodle 32 - The Letter O

O in all of it's simplicity was a bit challenging. Taking cues from various typefaces and handlettering samples I observed from my zillions of posts on Pinterest, I managed to fill up the page with no trouble!

Doodle 31 - The Letter N

I have nothing clever to say about this post, so here's the letter N.

Doodle 30 - The Letter M

M - you can make an M as complex or as complicated as you want. It's a strong letter and just as easy to screw up as it is to make amazing. Hopefully there are more of the latter than the former in these examples:

Doodle 29 - The Letter L

L. It's simple, just a couple of lines. Or one, if you're a lowercase lover. Either way, here is my L exploration:

Doodle 28 - The Letter K

A letter close to my heart. A letter I've written millions of times. A letter that can be kind of a pain in the ass. Still fun though :)

Doodle 27 - The Letter J

J is a cool letter. It really is. Trust me. :)

Doodle 26 - Intermission

I haven't had a chance to shoot the rest of the letters from my lettering exercise, so here's a doodle I did using my new Speedball calligraphy pens & ink. I bought a set a couple weeks ago and I've had a blast playing with them!

Doodle 25 - The Letter I

The simplicity of the I made it difficult to come up with so many variations. Much like the C, I looked around at various other examples of the letter on Pinterest and had a little easier time filling the page.

Doodle 24 - The Letter H

I like the letter H. This was an interesting one to work on. IT's funny - when I was working on the pencil sketches, Elizabeth (my 6-year-old) came over and said, "Mom, that doesn't look much look an H..."

Sheesh!

Doodle 23 - The Letter G

G was a tricky one - so many ways to create both the upper and lowercase versions! I also did it between coats of paint on a project for my husband out in the garage. Inhaling the fumes may have added another degree of difficulty... :)

Doodle 21 - The Letter E

I LOVED doing this one. E is a fun letter, in case you didn't know.

Doodle 22 - The Letter F

I enjoyed F. Much like E, there's a lot you can do with the descenders and cross bars. I also started using strictly Micron pens instead of a black flair. I love my flairs, don't get me wrong, but I love the variable sizes of the Micron pens.

Doodle 20 - The Letter D

I had fun with this one - played around a little more with flourishes and other little details.

Doodle 18 - The Letter B

Here's the Letter B. What a fun letter to create!

Doodle 17 - The Letter A

I haven't posted in awhile, but that doesn't mean I haven't been doodling. I've been working on a lettering project most nights the past few weeks.

On this particular page, I had a couple of little helpers fill up my page :)
